Production for the album took place from 2011, and continued in 2015 at several recording studios and was handled by Focus..., Dem Jointz, DJ Dahi, Cardiak, DJ Premier and Dr. Dre himself, among others. ''Compton'' features guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Cold 187um, The Game, Ice Cube, and Xzibit, among others.
The album debuted at number 2 on the US ''Billboard'' 200, selling 295,000 equivalent album units in its first week. Upon its release, ''Compton'' received general acclaim from music critics.
==Background==
Following the 11 years of development hell, on August 1, 2015, on his Beats 1 radio show "The Pharmacy", Dre announced that he would be releasing what would be his final album, titled ''Compton'' rather than its initial title of ''Detox''. It is inspired by the N.W.A biopic ''Straight Outta Compton'' and is a compilation-style album, featuring a number of frequent collaborators, including Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Xzibit Cold187um and The Game, among others. The album's release date was announced as August 7 for iTunes and Apple Music, with a physical release following on August 21. Dre also talked about his long-delayed Detox album, stating he did not release the album, because it did not meet his standards.
"During principal photography of ''Straight Outta Compton'', I felt myself going to the studio and being so inspired by the movie that I started recording an album," Dre said on The Pharmacy, his radio show on Beats 1. "I kept it under wraps, and now the album is finished. It's bananas. It's an 'inspired by' album. It's inspired by ''Straight Outta Compton'', we're gonna call the album ''Compton: The Soundtrack''. I'm really proud of this." Dre also described the upcoming release as being his 'grand finale.'
On August 1, 2015, during an interview with Power 99FM, Ice Cube announced Dr. Dre would release a new soundtrack album. On August 1, Dre was asked by another radio host on his Beats 1 radio show "The Pharmacy" about when the album was going to be released, to which Dr. Dre answered he is officially releasing the album on August 7, 2015, and is available to buy on iTunes.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/dr-dre-details-his-long-awaited-compton-the-soundtrack-20150801 )
